Despite 25 points from Hassan Diarra, and after battling back from an early 19-point deficit, the PSA Cardinals lost a brutal 76-70 contest to Houston Hoops on a rough opening night for Northeast EYBL programs at Peach Jam 2019.

HASSAN DIARRA

Facing a 36-17 hole midway through the 2nd quarter, PSA fought like hell to cut Houston’s lead to 9-points at halftime behind a handful of relentless drives by Diarra and second-chance buckets by Richie Springs, who finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Fiery contributions from Jalin Sinclair and Josh Gray off the bench eventually allowed PSA to cut Houston’s lead to a point late in the game but they simply couldn’t get over the hump. A pair of technicals by one of Peach Jam’s typical overzealous officiating crews turned a 2-point game into a 76-70 final in the closing second.

Gray finished with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.

EXPRESSIONS, NY RENS & TEAM FINAL ALSO LOSE OPENERS

Whether it was Expressions’ 86-63 drubbing at the hands of The Family, the NY Rens lethargic 89-70 loss to Boo Williams or Team Final’s hard fought 81-77 loss to Phenom U, none of our northeast programs could get themselves into the win column on the opening night of Peach Jam 2019.

The good news is that things are far from over, as each team will have at least four more games this weekend.
